Modelling the impacts of climate change on potential cultivation area and water deficit in five Mediterranean crops

چکیده

Aim of study: To assess the impacts climate change on local agriculture with a high resolution in Mediterranean region diversity climates.Area Catalonia (NW Spain).Material and methods: Based historical meteorological records regionalization RCP4.5 model created by Catalan Meteorological Service, Papadakis agro-climate classification was calculated for two scenarios. The changes agro-climatic suitability irrigation needs five typical crops (alfalfa, almond, barley, olive orange) were analysed. Main results: In 2031-2050 scenario, over 15% study area will no longer be adequate non-irrigated almond or olive, at locations which they have been traditionally rainfed crops. If is provided, orange likely to become agro-climatically suited entire coastline. Were current crop distribution maintained, may increase average 16% future scenario.Research highlights: High-resolution GIS data combined Papadakis’ classical method compare different scenarios detect risks opportunities regional agriculture.

Modelling potential impacts of climate change on the oak spatial distribution (Case study: Ilam and Lorestan provinces)

Examining the effects of climate change on the oak spatial distribution, as the main species of Zagros forests and its ecological and economic values is of significant importance. Here, we used species distribution models for simulating current climatic suitability of oak and its potential changes in 2050 and 2070. For this purpose, five regression-based and machine learning approaches, four cl...

Climate Change and Projected Impacts in Agriculture: an Example on Mediterranean Crops

Recently, the availability of multi-model ensemble prediction methods has permitted the assignment of likelihoods to future climate projections. This allowed moving from the scenario-based approach to the risk-based approach in assessing the effects of climate change, thus providing more useful information for decision-makers that, as reported by Schneider (2001), need probability estimates to ...

Investigation on Climate Change in Meteorological Stations of Guilan Province and its Impacts on Water Balance

Climate has always been changing during the lifetime of the earth, and has appeared in the form of the ice age, hurricanes, severe and sudden temperature changes, precipitation and other climatic elements, and has dramatically influenced the environment, and in some cases has caused severe changes and even destructions. Some of the most important aspects of climate changes can be found in preci...

Potential effects of individual versus simultaneous climate change factors on growth and water use in chickpea

It has been reported that in different regions and sowing dates, the response of crops to past climate change is not the same, due to different rates of decrease/increase in each climatic variable at different regions and months of year. This study was aimed to assess the effect of individual versus simultaneous changes in solar radiation (S), precipitation (P) and temperature (T) on rainf...

Regional climate change scenarios and their impacts on water requirements for wheat production in Iran

We simulate the effect of climate change on water requirements of cold seasonwheat in various climatic zones of Iran. The research considers both observedclimate (temperature and precipitation) changes during recent decades (1960-2009)based on instrumental records and projected future changes to 2100 based on theMAGICC/SCENGEN 5.3 compound model. 20 General Circulation models are usedbased on a...
